Year after year we keep coming back for this turkey that is a four generation business begun in 1949. Their turkeys are raised free-range. The ranch works with farmers to source non-GMO grain and mill the grain themselves that are fed to their turkeys. The result is a succulent taste and quality we have only found from the Diestel Family Turkey Ranch.
Their farming philosophy says it all – “We take our responsibility as farmers seriously – in fact, we believe we are more than farmers – we are stewards of the land.” At their ranch they understand “that turkeys need plenty of open rangeland, premium and all-natural feed, and time to grow and develop naturally.”
My husband is not a big fan of turkey but this family-owned company has turkey he enjoys. The turkey thighs we had during the holiday season were nearly three times larger than what you will normally find and the taste was so good. Usually my husband only goes for the white meat so this is very telling, too! Sometimes the thighs and legs have been a bit smaller than what we had over the holidays, but they still have the same great taste.
We like the whole turkeys for holidays but throughout the year buy the turkey breasts, legs and thighs.
The ranch is located in Sonoma, California, and the turkeys are distributed throughout the United States. We always find them at the Whole Foods Market in Arlington, Texas. To find a store near you that carries these great turkeys, please visit this page and put in your zip code.
