On a site that discusses healthy alternatives, it would be very difficult to overlook essential oils. Lately, some people have asked me about Young Living Essential Oils and how to order them. When it comes to healing, the Young Living Essential Oils will be referenced in some of the articles on this site so this one is the beginning of sharing about these great products and how to begin ordering them.
Always check for contraindications, especially during pregnancy or a condition requiring medical treatment. Always use carrier oil (like drops of olive oil added to the essential oil) when using essential oils on babies and children since their skin is much more sensitive to the effects, and to be safe, all essential oils should be avoided during the first trimester of pregnancy. Check with your doctor before using essential oils on yourself or your children.
So what are “essential oils”? The short version is: essential oils are highly concentrated components of plants. These components are classified into chemical families (groups), which have their own therapeutic properties, effects, and safety concerns.
Fragrance oils are chemicals and are not to be confused with essential oils which are natural. Fragrance oils should not be used for healing.
All Young Living Essential Oils are therapeutic grade.
The oils are highly concentrated and a little goes a very long way.
My husband and I having been using Young Living Essential Oils since 2003. At first, we were skeptical because it seemed out of the ordinary but essential oils are becoming main stream after more and more people have discovered the healing and health benefits of the oils.
An oil is “essential” in the sense that it contains the qualities of the plant that it is taken from.
You can put the oil on your skin (some require more care as they can be too strong to put directly on your skin but you can easily mix with a little olive oil as“carrier” oil), you can diffuse them into the air, or you can put a little on your palms, rub them and inhale the oils. Young Living sells diffusers. Sometimes we just put a drop on a cotton ball and set it out in a room or in our car to slowly fill the air.
In some cases they can be put in gelatin capsules and taken internally but most often they are used externally. It’s important to make sure it is safe to take oil internally. Young Living carries some supplements that contain their oils that you can safely take internally.
We invested in a book from Amazon.com called “Reference Guide for Essential Oils” by Connie and Alan Higley to learn more about the best way and for which purpose each oil is used. This is not a requirement because Young Living has free guides you can request to learn more and they have information you can access online but once you begin experiencing the benefits – you may want more information.
I will share with you the top five oils and oil combinations my husband and I use:
- Lavender – for relaxation and sleep.
- Peppermint – headaches, indigestion and revitalization.
- Purification (a combination of several oils) – bug bites, insect repellent and to purify the air.
- Endoflex (a combination of several oils) – for balancing my hormonal system naturally.
- A trio of oils (used together) for muscle or tendon relaxation and joint pain relief:
- Pane Away
This is a very short list of the oils’ benefits. Each one has many and the combinations create more.
There are more oils that I will be writing about in future posts but I want to give a basic sampling of information about the oils and how to order them.
We set ourselves up immediately as Wholesale Distributors so that we could benefit from the 24% discount. We have to commit to buying at least $50 worth of product per year (it is an easy thing for us to accomplish) and you will need to purchase a “starter kit.”
There are three levels of starter kits if you sign up as a Wholesale Distributor. The first is a Basic Starter Kit -$40, the second is a Basic Plus Starter Kit – $75, and the third is the Premium Starter Kit – $150. Please visit this page for more information about what is included in each of the starter kits. Learn more about the basic starter kits here.
